Movin' On Up!

New facility on the horizon . . .
Just Friends Jump

As you may or may not know, Tapestry's current facility at 507 B Pressler will be demolished to make room for condos at the end of 2006. We're excited to be finalizing the details of our new building at 407 Radam Lane (one block south of Ben White between South Congress & South 1st) and we're also in the overwhelming stage of floorplans, funding and contractor bids! This new space will house five new floating floor studios, large men's and women's restrooms with dressing areas and showers, class viewing areas as well as desperately needed office and storage space. We're looking for those of you in construction in the areas of framing, flooring, mirrors, plumbing, electrical and A/C that would like to be part of the finish out this summer! We'd love for you to be involved in the bidding process and of course appreciate any discounts, in-kind material donations or contributions. Unfortunately, our fundraising campaign has fallen short of our $200,000 goal and we're now looking for additional guarantors to secure a loan for our new lease. If you'd like to be involved either physically or financially, please give us a call at 512-474-9846 as soon as you can. We'd love to have more of our Tapestry family involved!

Sixth Annual Soul to Sole Festival

Rhythm is a terrible thing to waste!
Arthur

The Sixth Annual Soul to Sole Festival will be held May 31st June 4th, 2007 on the private campus of St. Stephen’s School in Austin, TX overlooking the beautiful Colorado river and bringing some of the best in the tap business to the Texas hill country! Classrooms will be filled with critically acclaimed hoofer’s including the Lane Alexander, Derick Grant, Acia Gray, Ayodele Casel and Barbara Phillips as well as Tapestry Dance Company’s own Jason Janas, Tasha Lawson & Brenna Kuhn. And, even though we know you’re already excited, to top the bill, two of America’s premiere dance pioneers will join us: Arthur Duncan and Jane Goldberg! The Soul to Sole Festival is quickly earning a reputation as “a great place to be” for a relaxed atmosphere and a playful and artistic exploration of the best of American tap dance. Over 60 classes and two courses will be offered for Fast Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels covering some historical choreographic gems as well as contemporary adventures of rhythm tap. Included in an optional 5 day “Blister,” Sore Feet,” or “Crazy Hoofer” pass, Soul to Sole will host tap jams, film screenings, panel discussions as well as an Artist Showcase (for festival participants by audition) along with the opportunity to just pick and choose your options a la carte! What’s really cool is that room & board is also available on campus, leaving you comfy and cozy after all that hoofin! The highlight, after 5 days of soaking it all in, is watching the faculty glow with family pride as they share the stage with each other at the 2006 Soul to Sole Faculty Concert! It doesn’t get much better than that!
