The Souls of Our Feet:
A Celebration of American Tap Dance
November 17-19, 2006 at the Helm Fine Arts Center
The Supremes, the Temptations, Gladys Knight & The Pips as well as many more Detroit based recording artists "got their groove on" working with Cholly Atkins: the legendary tap master of Coles & Atkins. Yes, the choreographer of Motown artists from 1953 to 1994 was a tap dancer! If you look closely at the classic choreography presented in this November's premiere of The Souls of Our Feet, you'll see the root of much of American popular culture. Led by our 21st Century Tap Ambassador Dianne Walker (Broadway's Black & Blue) special guest Sarah Petronio and the music of The Eddy Hobizal Jazz Trio, take a journey with Acia Gray and Tapestry Dance Company through the classic tap choreography of Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, The Nicholas Brothers, Charles 'Honi' Coles, The Condos Brothers and many more! New visions of the works of legends and proteges. It's not only its rhythm it's our history!
