Tapestry Dance Company Newsletter
November 7, 2007
Dear Tapestry Student/Parent:
Andrea Bloukos

What a beautiful time of year in Austin, Texas; fall is definitely upon us.  We feel it here at Tapestry Dance Company as well.  With the fall comes the Chronicle's Best Of awards, and I am proud to announce Tapestry Dance Company and Ballet Austin tied for "Best Dance Company."  We are very proud of our dancers and all they have accomplished this past year.  Specifically, the critically acclaimed Souls of Our Feet - A Celebration Of American Tap Dance, has been asked to go on tour this season.  You can find the eleven cities and dates at the end of this newsletter.  But you don't have to travel far to see Tapestry Dance Company in action, we will be performing the premiere of Footprints, a fusion of world music and global rhythms, at the Helm Fine Arts Center the weekend of November 16-18, 2007.

And the wonderful thing about being part of the Tapestry family is, you not only get to watch the art form perfected, you get to partake in it too.  Tapestry Dance Company's Academy is still accepting registrations for the 2007-2008 dance season, and with so many different dance classes to choose from, I am sure we have one just for you!  And did you know, you can exchange up to 5 hours of dance instruction for a PE credit within the Austin school district?  See the front desk for more details.

In closing, it gives me great pleasure to be a part of such a vibrant and growing dance family.  I want to thank the many folks who support us and our mission of sharing the power of dance.  If you haven't had a chance to participate in the No Sweat Fund Raiser, please do so today. Our campaign ends November 12, 2007.

Enjoy reading the full newsletter and never underestimate the power of dance!

Sincerely,

Andrea Bloukos

BEST DANCE COMPANY

TIE: Tapestry, Ballet Austin

When it comes to having all the right moves, both Tapestry Dance Company and Ballet Austin more than fit the bill.  The 50-year-young ballet - now in its brand-new Downtown home, the Butler Dance Education Center and Community School - can satisfy traditionalists with classical work like Don Quixote and The Nutcracker (44 Christmases and counting!) but mixes in some mighty modern dance, such as this season's premiere of Cult of Color: Call to Color, blending choreography by Artistic Director Stephen Mills, music by Graham Reynolds, and artwork by Trenton Doyle Hancock.  Multiform Tapestry - also in a new home this year - crafts a custom blend of original ballet, modern, and jazz spiced by new music from around the world in programs like November's Footprints, but co-founder and Artistic Director Acia Gray never neglects history, as is clear from its National Endowment for the Arts-sponsored, award-winning show The Souls of Our Feet, re-creating legendary routines of oh-so-sweet rhythm tap.  Both companies also offer exceptional education programs, getting children and adults alike on their feet and joyfully in step.
